Worried Your Kids Won’t Cooperate for Family Photos | Burleson, TX Family Photographer
“I just hope my kids cooperate.”
If I had a dollar for every mom who has said some version of this before a family photo session...well, I could probably buy another piece of photography equipment. 😂
I get it.
You’ve put time into choosing the outfits, getting everybody dressed, making sure nobody spills anything on the way to the session…and now you just want everyone to smile, look at the camera and please, and for the love of all things, act right for at least 30 minutes.
But here's what I want you to know:
Your kids do not have to behave perfectly for us to create beautiful family photos.
I’m Not Expecting Perfect Smiles
Of course, I’m going to try to get that photograph where everybody is looking at the camera and smiling. We want that one! But that’s not the only image I’m looking for.
I want the laugh. The little personality. The way your child leans into you. The silly face that makes everybody else crack up.
Sometimes I’ll ask a child to twirl, jump, clap, hug Mom or Dad…or give them something else to do besides worrying about my camera.
Because when kids are allowed to move and be themselves, that’s often when I get the expressions their parents recognize immediately.
That’s them.
“What If My Child Really Isn’t Feeling It?”
Then we adjust.
We might take a little break. I may photograph someone else for a few minutes. We may change what we’re doing completely.
What I don’t want is for you to spend the entire session stressed because your child isn't doing exactly what you pictured.
Your child doesn't need to perform for me.
Part of my job as your photographer is paying attention to what’s happening in front of me and figuring out how to work with your family…not expecting your family to work for my camera.
Your Family Photos Should Feel Like Your Family
Years from now, I don't think you're going to look at your photographs and wonder whether everybody followed directions perfectly that day.
You're going to notice how little they were.
You're going to remember that missing tooth. That little grin. That personality that hasn't changed one bit…or maybe has changed completely.
And you might even miss some of the chaos that feels like a lot right now.
That's why I want your family photographs to show more than what everybody looked like.
I want them to remind you what this season felt like.
So Mama, come to your session with the outfits, the snacks and whatever else it takes to get everybody out the door.
